Bull, the CEA, F4E and the JAEA inaugurate the Helios supercomputer in Rokkasho (Japan), dedicated to the Nuclear Fusion program
Extreme Computing. On 19 March, the Helios supercomputer – designed and implemented by Bull for the IFERC (International Fusion Energy Research Center) at Rokkasho, in Japan – was officially inaugurated. Delivering peak power of 1.5 Petaflops, this machine will provide computer modeling and simulation capacity for the research program linked to ITER, aimed at exploring new energy sources.
From zero to 1.5 Petaflops in nine months
Eye-witness account. Philippe Lachamp, Director of the Helios project, looks back on the outstanding achievement of Bull’s teams in Rokkasho: implementing one of the world’s most powerful supercomputers, starting with a blank canvas, in few months. Expertise, commitment and team spirit were at the heart of this extraordinary success story.
