Bull reaffirms its strategy to modernize the ‘legacy’ environments at the heart of the Data Center
This move is in line with Bull’s strategy to open up and modernize the ‘legacy’ environments at the heart of many large-scale Data Centers. The challenge is to enable the IT Departments of major companies and central government to evolve their central ‘legacy’ databases to PostgreSQL – the leading Open Source relational database. The key to this is greater openness and flexibility, at a lower cost than traditional solutions, with much easier integration with mainframe applications in internal ‘Clouds’.
The PostgreSQL is already being used by numerous large organizations worldwide. In particular, it has been available on Bull novascale gcos 8 since 2010, where it manages around a billion queries a day.
PostgreSQL is supported by a dynamic and independent international community. The annual PostgreSQL conference that took place end of March in New York will enable Ken Rosensteel, Database Architect at the Bull Engineering Center in Phoenix (Arizona), to share best practice and lessons learned from migrating ‘legacy’ environments to PostgreSQL (https://www.postgresqlconference.org/content/large-customers-want-postgresql-too).

Over and above the benefits of modernizing and opening up ‘legacy’ environments, adopting PostgreSQL at the heart of the Data Center means IT Departments can make very significant savings on cost of ownership.
