The AZ Sint-Blasius hospital, the La Citadelle regional hospital and the Entité Jolimontoise have all ordered Bull solutions
In recent months, Bull Belgium has achieved some notable successes in the hospital sector. The Algemeen Ziekenhuis (AZ) Sint-Blasius hospital in Dendermonde, the regional hospital of La Citadelle in Liège, and the Entité Jolimontoise all placed orders with Bull towards the end of 2010, most notably for security solutions; reaffirming Bull’s solid reputation in the healthcare market.
A number of Belgian healthcare establishments have called on Bull’s know-how in IT security. The Single Sign-On (SSO) offering from Bull’s subsidiary Evidian has been especially well received. This tool is used to protect access to many different applications, via a single user authentication process.
The AZ Sint-Blasius hospital is a long-standing Bull customer. The establishment, based in Dendermonde, has asked Bull to update its SSO solutions. The operation has also provided an opportunity to install the latest version 9 of Evidian’s Identity and Access Manager (IAM) software, to introduce a fully integrated logical and physical access control solution. “Using this application, the hospital can decide which members of staff have access to which programs, including confidential data,” explains Bernard Francis, Directer of Security at Bull Belux. “By automating the attribution of access rights, modifications are speeded up and there is less risk of errors.”
The regional hospital center (Centre Hospitalier Régional or CHR) of La Citadelle, in the city of Liège, is a new customer for Bull. “Everything related to security and authentication is often seen by users as a boring chore,” says Bernard Francis “But our solutions do away with that stress. From now on, doctors and medical personnel will have rapid access to the information they need.” The solution that Bull has implemented at La Citadelle also synchronizes with Active Directory and the HR databases at the hospital. Finally, a Web solution manages external access to the systems.
The Entité Jolimontoise is also current installing a similar solution. Bull Evidian’s Single Sign-On is part of a total reorientation of the hospital’s computing systems. Bull will continue to be responsible for supporting the new architecture set out in the IT plan. At Jolimont, Bull will be installing Evidian Enterprise SSO, as well as providing all the related services around the solution.
“At the moment, the healthcare sector is facing unprecedented challenges,” believes Saskia Van Uffelen, General Manager of Bull Belux and European Institutions. “Budgets are shrinking and there is an acute shortage of staff. Using computer technology is one way of meeting these challenges. With our solutions, hospitals can automate part of their processes, which frees up staff to devote more time to their fundamental role of patient care.”
