Why did you choose Baan to help manage your luxury hotel?
Lucien Xotta – We chose Baan 10 years ago, when there was no equivalent solution available in the hotel market. We needed a software package that could cover all the hotel’s accounting and stock management needs. Baan is normally used in industrial settings, but once it had been configured to cater for our business needs, it satisfied all our requirements. And we are very happy with it. The application ‘automates’ the order–delivery–billing chain without having to input the same data over and over again, and provides us with highly efficient analytical account reporting, which is absolutely essential in our business.

You have recently chosen Bull to migrate your Baan server?
Michael Sartor – Yes, our Baan infrastructure was becoming insufficient for our needs – particularly in terms of disk capacity – and also maintenance was too expensive. Following a tender issued to three suppliers, including our existing service provider, we chose Bull because of its particularly competitive business proposal, the skills offered by its experts and the unfailing commitment of its teams. Pascal Schoofs, Bull’s account director, presented us with a turnkey project based on a Bull Escala server which also included Baan migration and support. He was very proactive and forward-looking, something that is invaluable to us. He was also very reassuring about the whole migration process, which is usually quite laborious. The fruitful partnership Bull has had with Baan for many years, combined with the existence of Bull’s Baan competence center, were vital elements for us, and provided a guarantee of its ability to make a success of our project. We had confidence in Bull and have no regrets about our choice. The migration went very well indeed. Didier Zanuttini, Bull’s Project Manager, led the project from end to end, meeting all deadlines and keeping within budget, with support from the Bull competence center in Paris. The whole operation was virtually transparent for us!

So are you are happy with your return on investment?
LX – The ROI on this project is clear. Our disk capacities have been significantly increased, and our productivity has been given a boost: for example, a query that used to take anything between one and two hours before, now only takes five or ten minutes, a fifteenth of the time it took before! In addition, there is a substantial reduction in maintenance costs. These are factors that really count in these difficult times! Thanks to Bull’s commitment and enthusiasm, we have been able to considerably improve our information system. And we will not hesitate to call on the Bull team for future projects, as we trust them implicitly…
