Bull, European leader in the Information Technology sector, has been selected as the winner of the recent invitation to tender launched by Petrobras, the largest Brazilian company and among the largest oil company in the world, to supply CENPES, its Research and Development Centre, whose objective is to meet the technological demands that boost Petrobras business, with a bullx supercomputer. The new machine from Bull’s Extreme Computing product line, equiped with GPU accelerator technology, will be dedicated to the development of new subsurface imaging techniques using geophysical methods to support oil exploration and production.
This new Bull supercomputer, with over 250 Teraflops of computing power, will be among the first computing systems to be installed in the new Petrobras Data Center, which is in the final phase of construction at the University Campus of Rio de Janeiro. Once installed it will be one of the largest and most powerful computers in Latin America.
Note: The Brazilian government has already installed eight supercomputers for its federal Universities. Bull has installed six of the eight machines, including the three largest ones.
